Didn't see that museum, though we did hit the Reina Sofia, which was great (except for the boneheads snapping smiling selfies with Guernica in the background, ffs). Why was the history museum so disappointing?
The Reina Sofia and the Thyssen are great! And the Prado.
The history of Madrid is interesting, but not the way it's presented in the city's own history museum. Basically it's "this king, then that king, then Napolean came along (thisis the only interesting part), then more kings, then the 20th century." And the 20th century and the civil war -- which are extremely interesting -- are given short shrift.
